Owerri, Nigeria – The Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) has officially announced its Post-UTME and Direct Entry screening exercise for the upcoming 2024/2025 academic year. This exercise is specifically for candidates who selected FUTO as their first-choice institution in the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE) applications. Interested candidates must meet certain requirements and follow the specified application steps.
Application Period and Requirements
The application window for the Post-UTME and Direct Entry screening opens on August 1, 2024, and closes on August 31, 2024. Only candidates who meet the eligibility criteria within this period will be considered for admission.
Eligibility Criteria
1. UTME Candidates
Candidates applying through the UTME must have chosen FUTO as their first-choice institution. In addition, they must have scored a minimum of 150 in the UTME to qualify for the screening exercise.
2. Direct Entry Candidates
Candidates applying through Direct Entry are required to hold any of the following: an Ordinary National Diploma (OND), Higher National Diploma (HND), a First Degree, or A-Level qualifications in relevant subjects.
3. Candidates Who Did Not Initially Choose FUTO
Candidates who did not initially choose FUTO as their first-choice institution may still apply if they scored a minimum of 150 in the UTME. However, such candidates are required to visit the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) website to change their institution choice to FUTO.
Payment and Registration
Eligible candidates are required to pay a processing fee of Two Thousand Naira (N2,000.00). Payment can be made through any bank using a generated Remita Retrieval Reference Number (RRR) or through an ATM card for convenience.
Courses and Departments Requiring Specific JAMB Scores
The following FUTO programs are categorized based on the minimum JAMB scores needed:
A. Programs with a Minimum JAMB Score of 150
School of Agriculture & Agricultural Technology:
Courses include Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, Animal Science & Technology, Crop Science & Technology, among others.
School of Biological Sciences:
Courses such as Biochemistry, Biological Science, Biotechnology, and Forensic Science.
School of Environmental Sciences:
Fields of study such as Environmental Management, Building Technology, and Urban & Regional Planning are available.
Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Procurement, Environment, and Social Standard:
Focus areas include Environmental Sustainability, Procurement Management, and Sustainable Social Development.
School of Health Technology:
Programs include Environmental Health Science and Dental Technology.
B. Programs with a Minimum JAMB Score of 170
School of Information & Communication Technology:
Courses in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, and Cyber Security Science.
School of Health Technology:
Programs such as Prosthetics & Orthotics Technology, Public Health Technology, Optometry, and Radiography.
School of Electrical Systems and Engineering Technology:
Includes Telecommunication Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Mechatronic Engineering.
School of Engineering and Engineering Technology:
Fields like Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Petroleum Engineering.
School of Biological Sciences and Environmental Sciences:
Specializations in Microbiology and Architecture.
C. Program with a Minimum JAMB Score of 200
College of Medicine:
The Medicine and Surgery program.
Screening Exercise Format
The 2024/2025 Post-UTME and Direct Entry Screening Exercise at FUTO will use verified scores from JAMB as well as O’Level results from WAEC, GCE, NECO, and NABTEB uploaded on JAMB’s Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS).
Important notice
- Applicants must ensure that all their details on the JAMB CAPS portal, such as JAMB registration number, date of birth, and state of origin, match those provided on the FUTO Post-UTME application portal.
- Candidates must provide a valid mobile number and email address, as these will be used for all further communication.
- Candidates must upload their O’Level results on the JAMB CAPS portal by August 31, 2024. Only candidates who complete this process will be eligible for admission.
- Direct Entry candidates must submit their academic transcripts to the Registrar at FUTO by August 31, 2024. Failure to do so will result in disqualification from the admission process.
How to apply
Interested candidates should visit the official FUTO website (futo.edu.ng) and follow the step-by-step instructions provided below:
- Visir https://portal.futo.edu.ng/ and Navigate to the “Prospective Students” section.
- Click on “Undergraduate” and then select “2024/2025 POST-UTME/Direct Entry Application.”
- Enter your JAMB registration number to generate a payment invoice containing the Remita Retrieval Reference Number (RRR).
- Proceed to make the payment either at a bank or with an ATM card.
- Return to the application page and re-enter your JAMB registration number.
- Complete the application form with accurate details, including O’Level results.
- Confirm all entries and submit the application.
- Print the acknowledgment slip and await further instructions from FUTO.
Only candidates who complete the registration process will gain access to upload their O’Level credentials for screening.
Candidates should note that their JAMB scores should guide their choice of department. Depending on these scores, candidates may need to visit JAMB CAPS to adjust their chosen program and apply for the same program through the FUTO Post-UTME application portal.
FUTO has emphasized that candidates do not require intermediaries for the application process. The university advises against paying any individuals for admission assistance. The process is straightforward, and admission is solely based on meeting the specified criteria.
Direct Entry Additional Requirement
In addition to the requirements above, Direct Entry candidates are reminded that their academic transcripts must reach the Registrar of FUTO in Owerri, Imo State, by August 31, 2024. Failure to submit transcripts will lead to disqualification from the admission consideration.
